TEC Laser Controller Combos
A laser diode needs two loops: one for the current through it, and one for its temperature. A TEC laser controller combo puts both in one module — a high-efficiency TEC controller and a low-noise laser driver — without giving up the performance of either one.
All analog parameters are set and read back through a 2-pin digital port, so the module does not need the many dedicated analog pins of conventional modules. The TEC loop tunes its own PID network to your thermal load. The module is fully shielded and lead-free. These products are in development, and specifications may change.
Five models, five laser current ratings
The five models share the same TEC controller and differ in the maximum laser current: 100 mA, 200 mA, 250 mA or 500 mA without a heat sink, and 1 A with a heat sink. Pick the smallest one that covers your diode’s operating current with margin. The table below shows when a combo fits better than two separate modules.

Combo or two separate modules?
One question: do you want to set and read the laser and TEC loops from a microcontroller, at a laser current of 1 A or less? If yes, the combo saves pins and board space. If you need more laser current, use a separate laser driver and TEC controller.
| Option | Laser current | TEC current | How you set it | Choose this if… |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TEC Laser Controller Combo 5 models · in development | 100 mA – 1 A1 A model needs a heat sink | up to ±3.5 A | 2-pin digital port, plus one analog in and one analog out | You want both loops in one shielded module. Set every parameter and read back the status from your own controller, and let auto PID tune the TEC loop for you. |
| Laser Driver + TEC Controller two modules · released products | 50 mA – 45 A | 2.5 – 15 A | Dedicated analog pins on each module | You need more current, or a released part. Choose each module from its own datasheet: the driver from the diode, the controller from the TEC module. |
How the combo works
Two control loops share one digital port. Each loop keeps its own job.
- The TEC loop tunes itself. The built-in auto PID network matches the compensation to your thermal load, so you do not build or tune an external network. If the thermal load changes, run auto tuning again. Through the digital port you set the set-point temperature range, the set-point temperature, and the maximum cooling and heating currents. You read back the object temperature, TEC current, TEC voltage and loop status. The TEC output stage runs at ≥90% efficiency.
- The laser loop protects the diode. The laser driver is a linear-mode, low-noise, high-speed stage with a programmable current limit. If the current setting goes above the limit, the limit loop takes over and holds the current at the safe value. You read back the actual laser current and the loop status.
- One analog input and one analog output. Choose one setting to drive directly from the AI pin, and one signal to watch in real time on the AO pin. Everything else goes through the digital port.
- Four modes from one control pin. Shutdown, Standby, On and PID Auto Tuning. The module also monitors its own temperature.
