The AUSBC1 consists of two units: a miniature camera head and a USB video converter. The camera head generates standard NTSC or PAL video/audio signals with a built-in color filter array, while the USB converter digitizes those analog signals via USB Video Class protocol for convenient connection to a computer.
The camera head measures just 11 × 11 × 7 mm with a 2.2 mm mounting pin hole, offers 640 × 480 resolution, 0.6 lux/F1.2 sensitivity, progressive scan, and greater than 50 dB signal-to-noise ratio at under 100 mA @5 V. The USB converter captures video at up to 720 × 480 (NTSC) or 720 × 576 (PAL/SECAM) in AVI, MPEG-1, or Windows Media format, and works driver-free on Windows, Linux and macOS.
It is used in medical care, microscopy, video conferencing, PC multimedia, pipe and well inspection, and CCTV security surveillance applications.
