ASOA1550N21D35GBT 1550nm 35dB 21dBm Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (Butterfly Package)

The ASOA1550N21D35GBT is a high-gain semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) for the 1550 nm band, delivering 35 dB typical small-signal gain (30 dB minimum) and 21 dBm typical saturated output power. The gain spectrum has a 90 nm typical −3 dB bandwidth centered near 1520 nm, covering the C-band and extending into the S-band, and a 6 dB typical noise figure (8 dB maximum) keeps added noise low in multi-stage sensing and detection front ends. This combination of gain and output power makes the device a compact, lower-cost partial replacement for EDFA amplification stages in many designs.

A 60 dB typical shutdown extinction ratio lets the amplifier be driven directly as a gated modulator or optical chopper, providing a compact, RF-free alternative to acousto-optic modulators in pulsed sensing and LiDAR architectures. Polarization-dependent gain is 12 dB typical, so the input signal polarization should be aligned to the amplifier’s high-gain axis — making this device well suited to linearly polarized sources such as narrow-linewidth MOPA seed lasers.

The chip is housed in a hermetically sealed standard butterfly package with integrated temperature control for stable gain and wavelength performance across a −10°C to +70°C operating range. Typical applications include distributed fiber-optic sensing, broadband light sources for fiber Bragg grating demodulation, 1550 nm optical communication systems, wind LiDAR, narrow-linewidth MOPA laser systems, and space-based optical detection and communication.
