Tilt & Inclination Sensors
A tilt sensor reports the angle of the surface it is bolted to, measured against gravity. These are MEMS-based single and dual axis inclinometers for machine arms, platforms, masts and structures that move slowly. If the equipment accelerates hard or changes direction quickly, gravity is no longer a steady reference — an inertial sensor is the right part for that job.
ATI builds 15 tilt and inclination sensors, with accuracy from ±0.2° down to ±0.001°. Every model is IP67 rated and specified from −40 to +85 °C, so it mounts outdoors without an extra enclosure. Outputs cover RS485, CAN Bus, Modbus RTU, 0–10 V and 4–20 mA, and prices start at $99.

Also worth knowing:
- Narrow range at the top grades: The two most accurate series measure ±15°, not ±90°. If you need fine resolution across a wide swing, tell us the angle you have to cover and we will see what we can do.
- Analog models need a higher supply: The 0–10 V and 4–20 mA models run from 12–36 VDC. The digital models accept 9–36 VDC. Check this before you reuse an existing supply.
- Machine mounts: The DI-3144 is supplied pre-configured for body, bucket or lower arm mounting on construction machinery. The three versions differ in orientation, not in accuracy.
Questions we get asked
Do I need single axis or dual axis?
Single axis measures the angle along one direction. It is enough for a hinged arm, a mast, a ramp or anything that only pivots one way.
Dual axis measures pitch and roll together. Use it for a platform, a vehicle chassis, an antenna base or a machine that can lean in two directions at once. If you are unsure whether the mounting surface can twist as well as tilt, dual axis is the safer choice.
How much accuracy do I actually need?
The grades here run from $99 to $1,599, and the difference between them is accuracy alone. Work backwards from the angle error your application can tolerate, and remember that on a long arm or a tall structure a small angle error becomes a large error at the far end.
Machine guidance and platform levelling are usually satisfied by ±0.05° or ±0.1°. Bridge deflection, tower and dam monitoring, surveying instruments and precision platform levelling are where the ±0.01° grades and better start to earn their price.
