Integrated Circuits

These are bare chips for your own board — surface-mount ICs that you place and support with external components. Use them when you are laying out the circuit yourself. If you would rather buy a part that works out of the box, see the isolated DC-DC converters or the amplifier modules.

ATI stocks 27 analog and mixed-signal ICs in two families: power management and signal chain. Prices start at $0.39, quantity discounts are shown on each product page, and parts ship from stock in San Jose.

Two families

Power Management ICs handle the supply side: stepping a rail down, protecting a battery pack, driving a relay. Signal Chain ICs handle the measurement side: amplifying a small signal or picking up sound.

Also worth knowing:

  • Evaluation boards:  ATDC1934, ATDC2934 and ATI2202 each have a matching board with the chip already soldered on. Choose the board or the loose chip from the configuration menu on the product page.

Questions we get asked

Should I buy the converter chip or a ready-made converter module?

A chip is cheaper and smaller, but it is only part of the circuit. You still design the layout and add the inductor, the capacitors and the feedback network. A module arrives working, at a higher price and a larger size.

Buy the chip if you are laying out your own board. Buy a module if you need one working supply now, or if the design has to be isolated — none of the converter chips here provide isolation.

How do I choose between the five single-cell battery protection variants?

They are the same silicon with different factory-set detection voltages. The overcharge threshold is what separates them, and it must match the charge voltage of your cell. A cell charged to 4.2 V and a cell charged to 4.35 V need different parts. Two variants also add a sleep mode for packs that sit unused for long periods.
